Let’s be honest here: many of us tend to pack on the pounds during the holidays.  Delicious treats are a plenty, it’s far too cold to spend time playing outdoors and no one can see your girlish figure under 19 layers of clothing anyway. 

This year, I am determined not to let that scrumptious assortment of holiday cookies get the best of me!  A bite or two will satisfy my sweet tooth and I plan on getting my heart rate up indoors.  There are plenty of everyday activities that burn those extra calories you are going to consume.  For example: taking the stairs, vacuuming and sex.  That’s right, it’s a scientific fact.

According to WebMD,

Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories or more. It may not sound like much, but it adds up: 42 half-hour sessions will burn 3,570 calories, more than enough to lose a pound. Doubling up, you could drop that pound in 21 hour-long sessions.

“Sex is a great mode of exercise,” says Patti Britton, PhD, a Los Angeles sexologist and president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Therapists. It takes work, from both a physical and psychological perspective, to do it well, she says.

Chances are you are not going to spend 21 hours in the sack.  Then again, who am I to make that call?  Either way, the mattress mambo is great in all of its glory and isn’t such a bad way to burn calories. Not to mention, it reduces holiday stress and is a great way to avoid cabin fever! 

Like Joy Davidson, Ph. D said, “sex does a body good in a number of ways”.  This is true as long as you are having safe sex; or at least safer sex.  What is the point of boosting your immunity (yes, another health benefit of sex according to WebMD) if you are not going to use condoms?  While the weather outside is frightful, I encourage you to enjoy lots of sex.  But, in the name of all that is right, use condoms!
